Brandon Hill Chamber Orchestra
Conductor: Catherine Larsen-Maguire
Cello Solo: Jane Jewel
Sunday 8 May at 5pm (doors open 4:30pm)
Brandon Hill Chamber Orchestra was formed in 1987 by four Bristol-based musicians who wanted to establish an orchestra capable of achieving the highest possible musical standards.
BHCO has worked with Catherine Larsen-Maguire since 2014 and one of its most exciting recent projects was the commission and world premiere of Eleanor Alberga’s first symphony – Strata – in March of this year.
The orchestra started life focussing on the chamber orchestra repertoire, but has extended its reach to incorporate a wide range of musical genres including opera and even Mahler Symphonies.
Today’s concert takes the orchestra back to its roots as a chamber orchestra with a delightful selection of English string music and Mozart’s under-stated but joyous 29th Symphony, written when he was only 18. Jane Jewel, the orchestra’s principal cello, takes a solo spot in Tchaikovsky’s Andante Cantabile for cello and strings.
Elgar: Serenade for Strings
Warlock: Capriol Suite
Tchaikovsky: Andante Cantabile for Cello and Strings
Mozart: Symphony No 29 in A Major K201
