The moment your sperm meets your egg, says Dr Hammond, you join the queue for death. So how do you stay healthy while waiting? Phil Hammond has been an NHS doctor for 33 years, a comedian for 31 years, a BBC broadcaster for 30 years and Private Eye’s medical correspondent for 28 years.

He currently works in an NHS team based at the Royal United Hospital, Bath, helping young people with severe fatigue.

Phil has written five books, including Sex, Sleep or Scrabble? and Staying Alive – How to Improve Your Health and Your Healthcare. He is a patron of many health charities and has received awards for comedy, writing, teaching and investigative journalism
